# BIMI

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is a DNS record at default._bimi.<domain> pointing at a brand logo that some mailbox providers show beside mail from a domain with enforcing DMARC.

Date: 2026-09-13

BIMI, Brand Indicators for Message Identification, is a specification under which a domain publishes a TXT record at `default._bimi.<domain>` pointing at an SVG logo, and a participating mailbox provider shows that logo beside messages from the domain — but only when the message passes DMARC with an enforcing policy of quarantine or reject, and, at most providers, only when the logo comes with a verified mark certificate.

## What Spaw answers

The domain endpoint reports `bimi`: whether the record exists. It is read beside `dmarc_policy`, because a BIMI record on a domain whose policy is none is decoration nobody will display.

## What it does not mean

The record does not mean the logo appears anywhere: display depends on the provider, the DMARC policy, the certificate and the sender's reputation. Spaw reads the DNS record and nothing further.
